Samsung announces Smart Monitor with TV and PC features

Samsung has prepared for the release of Smart Monitor. According to the manufacturer, this is the first monitor that combines additional multimedia services, mobile communications and remote PC capabilities. Users are offered several models with different display parameters.

Like Samsung’s line of TVs, Smart Monitor runs Tizen OS and can connect to a wireless Wi-Fi network to stream HDR10 content from Hulu, Netflix, Apple TV, YouTube, and more. or additional equipment. The monitor also supports the ability to install additional applications from the pre-installed store.

The device supports the ability to mount on a wall or a holder using the Vesa 100 × 100 mount system. The monitor has two speakers with a power of 5 W each, there is a remote control with support for voice assistants Bixby 2.0, Alexa and Google Assistant. There is also support for AirPlay 2. Thus, the device has many features common to TVs. In terms of computer functions, thanks to the built-in Bluetooth 4.2 wireless module, the user can connect a keyboard and mouse, connect to Office 365 through a virtual machine and use such a monitor as an office system without additional equipment.

You can also use the DeX utility and connect a Galaxy S8 or newer smartphone to the monitor, using such a bundle as a PC replacement. You can also display an image from a Samsung smartphone (running Android Oreo 8.1 or later) on the monitor screen by touching the top-right edge of the Smart Monitor where its NFC module is located.

Users can choose from the M5 models with a screen diagonal of 27 and 32 inches, as well as the M7 version with a 32-inch 4K panel. All modifications are available with two HDMI 2.0 ports and two USB-A 2.0 ports. The M7 Smart Monitor also offers additional connectivity options. For example, a laptop can be connected to a monitor via a USB-C port (supporting video, data, and up to 65W of power), and a third USB-A 2.0 port is available to users.

The Samsung M5 Smart Monitor will go on sale this week for $ 230 or $ 280, for the 27- and 32-inch versions, respectively. The M7 Smart Monitor will go on sale in December for $ 400.
