Last month, Apple introduced an updated Siri Remote for the Apple TV. Since then, users have discussed the possible reasons why the device did not receive support for locator technology, which would make it easy to locate the remote in case of loss. Apple VP Tim Twerdahl answered this question.
It turned out that the reason is in the thickness of the remote control, which should prevent it from falling between the sofa cushions. “ We’re delighted that AirTag and the U1 chip have contributed to the Find My network of more than 1 billion devices worldwide to help you find your belongings. But the new remote control, in our opinion, will not be easy to lose. Thanks to the changes we have made to the Siri Remote, including making it thicker, the remote will not fall through the cushions of the sofa, ”commented Tim Tverdal.
Many people have encountered difficulties finding a remote control from a TV or set-top box, so the voiced reason for the absence of a U1 chip in the remote looks strange. Mr. Tverdal could say that such a modification speeds up the process of discharging the remote control battery, makes it more expensive, or that the remote control was created before the development of the U1 chip was completed. However, Apple believes that increasing the thickness of the remote is enough to make it less likely to be lost.
