What is now known about Apple Display XDR – Apple’s budget monitor

Apple’s line of devices has a lot – from Mac Pro to all sorts of adapters. But it still lacks one significant product. Rumours about it appear from time to time appear and disappear, and every time, this product is at an early stage of development. They dream of it almost as much as they dreamed of a MacBook Pro with a normal keyboard and thin bezels around the screen or the new iPhone SE. This is the Apple Display XDR, a 32-inch display similar to the Apple Pro Display XDR, only simpler and cheaper and kind of for everyone. Information about him is contradictory and vague. Should we wait for him this year?

Apple is preparing a new low-cost monitor. What will it be?

When is Apple Display XDR coming out?

Apple’s low-cost monitor is still in its early prototypes, Bloomberg reported in January this year. That is, several options are being tested, from which you need to choose the best and only one – and bring it to the brand’s shine and perfection. The likelihood of its presentation at the opening of WWDC 2021 is close to zero, but still not zero.

There is also encouraging information: since this monitor is actually the same new generation iMac, only without a built-in computer, Apple Display XDR will definitely be released this year because desktop Macs without a built-in display will soon become more and more in demand. Imagine the M1 Mac mini in its maximum configuration for $ 174,990, and next to it is the Apple Pro Display XDR with regular (non-nano-textured) glass and Pro Stand for $ 479,980. This somehow doesn’t seem right, although people use it.

Why is Apple Display XDR needed?

In 2016, when Apple’s Thunderbolt Display turned five years old, it had never been updated, and it was hopelessly behind the competition; it was abolished. Like the iMac Pro or HomePod. Instead, the good-natured Phil Schiller recommended using 4K and 5K LG UltraFine displays, developed by LG in cooperation with Apple and for Apple.

Unlike Apple’s Thunderbolt Display, both LG UltraFine models have been redesigned in 2019 and are a workable option. But their time is coming to an end, they no longer meet the EU requirements for energy consumption at rest, and LG UltraFine had to be removed from the shelves of Apple online stores in Europe. Nearly all modern displays work with Macs, including the M1 Mac mini. LG UltraFine can be purchased from Amazon online stores – with discounts and free shipping.

Either LG or some other company would happily develop the next generation of displays for Apple, which Tim Cook and Greg Joswiak will advertise. This can happen at WWDC. Or in the fall. And nothing bad will happen because of this – but let Apple Display XDR come out!

Apple Display XDR Specifications

The new monitor will receive a diagonal of 32 inches, the largest in the history of Apple

Apple expects a 32-inch display that looks like its professional sibling, with an included stand that will be simpler than the Pro Display XDR. With a resolution of 6K (6016 × 3384), conventional LED backlighting and other simplifications.

The monitor should have some zest, something that makes it unbearably desirable to buy. And since this is a display for everyone, household and professional, it would benefit from vibrant, eye-catching colours. The resolution and display type will most likely be the same as that of the Pro Display XDR, and it will cost two or two and a half thousand dollars (which is more realistic). For this price, it will be swept off the shelves.
