Microsoft updated Windows 11 system requirements: TPM 2.0 is required again

After presenting the new operating system Windows 11, which took place this week, there was confusion about the system requirements that must be met to install it. Earlier it was reported that, among other things, a TPM 2.0 security module or at least TPM 1.2 is required. Now Microsoft has updated the documentation and, following the new data, the presence of the TPM 2.0 module is a prerequisite for installing Windows 11.

Recall that immediately after the presentation of Windows 11, the developers announced that TPM 2.0 would be required to install it. However, the next day, Microsoft relaxed the requirements and said that TPM 2.0 was a recommendation and that TPM 1.2 would be sufficient to install the OS. Now the requirements have changed once again, and TPM 2.0 has become a must again. A Microsoft spokesman confirmed that “TPM 2.0 is the minimum requirement, and Windows 11 will not install without it

The Trusted Platform Module (TPM) is a cryptographic module that encrypts user data to prevent tampering. TPM can be produced as a separate chip, but this technology can also be implemented at the BIOS / UEFI firmware level. To check for TPM on your computer, just press Win + R and execute the “tpm.msc” command.

“It’s great to see that Microsoft is taking serious steps to ensure that its OS is as secure as possible. Any step that can be taken to improve security is positive, ”said Miguel Zamarripa, head of IT at Simple works IT.
