Microsoft to add health bar for passwords by updating its Edge browser

Microsoft will update the password manager in the Edge browser with additional features. The software will now be able to track weak, reused, or compromised combinations.

Microsoft clarifies that the updated password monitoring tool, integrated into the browser, will notify users even if the password has not leaked to the Network but is used simultaneously in several accounts, which weakens the overall level of security of user information.

“Starting with Microsoft Edge 91, we’ll be giving you feedback on which passwords are weak and/or used across multiple accounts. This will allow you to remain aware of your level of security on the Web, ”the company says.

Previously, Reddit user u / Leopeva64-2 posted an image demonstrating how the new browser interface works. After the function is activated, the user will see a “health bar” next to each saved password. The fewer divisions, the more reasons to update the combination.

Moreover, Microsoft will allow users to filter identification data according to various criteria – alphabetically or health. Also, Edge users will only selectively view information about weak, compromised, or frequently used passwords.

Based on the roadmap published by Microsoft, the version with the updated password manager will be released before the end of this month. The “unstable” version of Microsoft Edge Canary is already available for download to test the new feature.
