Microsoft spoke about the consequences of “killing” Windows 7

The end of support for Windows 7 triggered a series of updates to more modern operating systems. Softpedia reports this about Microsoft materials.

In a statement from the corporation, related to the publication of the quarterly financial report, the new operating systems’ success is noted. According to journalists, Microsoft positively evaluates the demand for Windows 10 after the “killing” of the outdated Windows 7. “In 2020, the growth in revenue from sales of OEM-licenses (Original Equipment Manufacturer) grew by one per cent, despite the strong performance of the previous year”, – noted in a company statement. At the same time, revenue from sales of Windows 10 licenses, specifically in the segment of home users grew by 24 per cent.

The corporation said that the increase in license sales was one of the consequences of the end of the support cycle for Windows 7 in early 2020. Microsoft representatives predicted continued stable demand in the personal computer market in 2021. Also, analysts of the American company believe that demand in the gaming segment will be very high, associated with the release of the new generation of consoles Xbox Series X and S.

Reporters noticed that computers running Windows 7 are in most cases suitable for Windows 10. However, to access some new OS functions, a PC update is required. The authors said that Windows 7’s market share is slowly declining, although the operating system still runs on about 20 per cent of computers connected to the Windows ecosystem.

Earlier, journalists noticed that the success of Windows 7, which was recognized as outdated on January 14, 2020, is because OS users do not want to pay to upgrade to the new version. Specifically, 22 per cent of consumers said they found the operating system released in 2009 to be simpler and easier to use than Windows 10.
