Microsoft May Announce Cloud PC Virtual Desktop Service Next Week

Earlier this year, it was reported that Microsoft plans to launch a cloud-based virtual desktop service called Cloud PC in the summer. Now it became known that this could happen next week as part of the annual Microsoft Inspire conference, which the software giant is holding for its partners. This is indicated by the names of the sessions and other information about the upcoming event.

The mentioned event will begin on July 12, and already on July 15 the session “What’s Next in End-User Computing” is scheduled. Scott Manchester will be one of the speakers for this session on “Microsoft’s latest cloud solution for hybrid operation.” According to reports, he leads a division that develops solutions for cloud services. The division’s activities are closely related to Windows virtual desktops, Remote Desktop Services, and other networking technologies.

For the past few months, the Manchester division has been working on a cloud computing service codenamed Deschutes, which is built on top of Microsoft Azure, according to the source. Cloud PC is virtualized desktops as a service. The service allows you to use user devices as thin clients to access remote Windows desktops with various software, such as Microsoft Office.

According to reports, Microsoft plans to sell Cloud PC as a Microsoft 365 managed environment at a fixed price per customer. An earlier leak indicates that Microsoft intends to offer multiple subscription options for the Cloud PC service. Initially, they were called Medium, Heavy, Advanced and differed in the number of virtual CPUs, RAM, and ROM available to the user when connected to a remote desktop. The Cloud PC service is rumored to be currently being tested by several organizations.
