Legendary Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2XL get the final update

Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2XL laid the foundation for many of the Pixel’s unique features.

Google yesterday began rolling out the December security update for its smartphones. At the same time, the search giant also released the latest update for the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, thus ending software support for these smartphones.

Most of the world’s smartphones run Google’s Android operating system, but the search giant’s phone business hasn’t picked up steam. The company unveiled the Pixel line of smartphones as the spiritual successor to the Nexus in 2016.

The Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL laid the foundation for many of the Pixel’s unique features. The Pixel 2 series phones were also the first Google device to feature Active Edge, which the company dropped when creating the Pixel 5. The Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL were the first Google phones to feature the Pixel Visual Core, a proprietary image processor. A new version of this chip, called the Pixel Neural Core, debuted on the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL, but the chip didn’t appear on the Pixel 5.

Google has supported these phones for three years. The latest update, currently being shipped to Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL users, contains the November Android security patch.
