IOS 14.5 beta introduces Apple Watch to unlock iPhone with Face ID

It allows you to unlock your phone without removing your mask. Apple has released a beta version of iOS 14.5 for developers, in which it became possible to unlock the smartphone without removing the mask, writes Engadget.

The new feature allows you to unlock your smartphone via Face ID using your Apple Watch.

The function must be turned on manually in the smartphone settings. After that, you need to unlock your Apple Watch and then use Face ID as usual. The watch will vibrate to indicate that the phone is unlocked.

For this feature to work, wrist recognition must be enabled in Apple Watch settings.

The function only works for unlocking and locking the phone. For example, pay for a purchase in the App Store using Face ID, you have to remove the mask.

This is not the first improvement Apple has added to Face ID during the pandemic. In May 2020, Apple made it easier for users with medical masks to unlock them – they can immediately unlock their smartphone with a password without waiting after a failed attempt with Face ID.
