What is Image Playground?

Image Playground is an Apple Intelligence feature available in macOS 15.2 or later on Mac models with M1 or later. It allows users to create unique and customized images by selecting themes, adding personalized elements, and refining their visuals. How to Create an Image

You can combine up to seven elements to generate original images using the Image Playground app. Follow these steps:

  1. Open the Image Playground app on your Mac.
  2. Click the Create New Image button and choose one of the following options:
    • Create an image from a concept: Select a theme, costume, accessory, or place.
    • Create an image from a description: Enter a description in the Describe an image field and press Return.
    • Create an image of a person: Click the Person button and select a person from your photo library.
    • Use a reference photo: Click the Photo Browser button to choose or take a photo.
    • Change the image style: Click the Style button and select Animation or Illustration.
  3. Click the Next and Previous buttons to explore variations of your image.
  4. When satisfied, click Done in the top-right corner to save the image to your gallery.
  5. To view saved images, click the Back button.

Tip: Click the Thumbs Up or Thumbs Down button to provide feedback and improve the Image Playground experience.

Editing and Refining an Image

If you want to modify an existing image, follow these steps:

  1. Open Image Playground on your Mac.
  2. In the gallery, Control-click an image and choose Edit.
  3. You can:
    • Add a concept: Select a suggested theme, costume, accessory, or place.
    • Modify the description: Click the Describe an image field and update the text.
    • Change a person’s appearance: Click the Person button and select new attributes.
    • Change the style: Click the Style button and switch between Animation or Illustration.
  4. Click Done to save changes. If editing a previously saved image, you can update the image or save it as a new file.

Copying, Sharing, or Saving an Image

Once you’ve created an image, you can easily share it:

  1. Open Image Playground.
  2. Choose one of the following methods:
    • Click More and select Copy, Share, or Save.
    • Control-click an image in the gallery and choose Copy or Share.

Deleting an Image

Note: If you delete an image from Image Playground, it is removed from all your devices where you’re signed in with the same Apple ID.

  1. Open Image Playground.
  2. Control-click the image in the gallery and choose Delete.
  3. Confirm by clicking Delete.

Creating Images in Messages

You can generate and send images directly within the Messages app:

  1. Open Messages on your Mac.
  2. Start a new message or open an existing conversation.
  3. Click the Apps button next to the message field, then select Image Playground.
  4. Choose an existing image or click Create New Image.
  5. Press Return to send the image.

Creating Images in Freeform

Image Playground is also integrated with the Freeform app for enhanced creativity:

  1. Open Freeform on your Mac.
  2. Open an existing board or create a new one.
  3. Choose one of the following:
    • Click Insert Media in the toolbar, then select Image Playground.
    • Select up to seven elements (images, drawings, text boxes, etc.), then Control-click and choose Add to Playground.
  4. Click Done to finalize and add the image to your board.
