Easy Guide: Create macOS Tahoe Bootable USB for Fresh Install

Create macOS Tahoe Bootable USB for Fresh Install

Hey there, Mac users! 🍏 Ready for macOS Tahoe? Whether you’re upgrading from an older macOS or your system feels sluggish, a clean installation is like giving your Mac a factory reset—it wipes away years of clutter, hidden errors, and leftover files. This guide is for anyone who wants to:

While you could upgrade through the App Store, a macOS Tahoe Bootable USB gives you more power. It lets you install Tahoe without Wi-Fi, troubleshoot dead drives, or even help a friend upgrade. Think of it as your digital Swiss Army knife for Mac emergencies!

What You’ll Need for macOS Tahoe Bootable USB

Grab these before starting:

  1. blank USB drive (16 GB or larger).
  2. Mac that supports macOS Tahoe
  3. Stable internet (to download Tahoe’s 12-15 GB installer).
  4. Backed-up data (use Time Machine or iCloud).
  5. 20-30 minutes of free time.

⚠️ Heads up: We’ll erase your USB drive. Copy any important files off it first!

Step 1: Download macOS Tahoe Installer

  1. Open this link to our GEEKrar repository.
  2. Click on InstallAssistant.PKG file (it’s free!).
  1. Wait for the download to finish. The installer will open automatically—just close it for now.
  2. Once the file is downloaded, go to your Downloads folder and double-click on the InstallAssistant.pkg file.

Step 2: Prep Your USB Drive

Here, TahoeUSB is the name of your USB drive; if you have a different name on the USB drive, you can replace TahoeUSB with the exact name. For example: Untitled in the screenshot below.

  1. Type your Mac password (you won’t see typing—just press Enter).
  2. Type Y + Enter to confirm.
  1. Wait 15-30 mins (grab a coffee!). The terminal will say “Install Media now available at “/Volume” when finished.

Step 4: Check Your macOS Tahoe Bootable USB Works

  2. Plug it back in.
  3. Open the USB drive—you should see:
