Doctors: iPhone 12 is life-threatening for people with pacemakers

One of the main features of the new iPhone 12 family is the MagSafe wireless charging system. It is based on magnets that have become a source of concern for the medical journal Heart Rhythm. Published in early January, the article describes an experiment in which researchers managed to interrupt a vital pacemaker’s operation by bringing the iPhone 12 close to a patient’s chest.

Following this, a note appeared in the support section of the Apple official website informing about the possible appearance of magnetic interference for medical devices. In the text, the manufacturer indicates that “iPhone 12 should not pose a big risk”, but at the very end of the article calls for abandoning the use of iPhone and MagSafe accessories in case of suspicion of interference. The company also recommends keeping new items safely from the pacemaker: 15 cm or more in normal state and 30 cm or more during wireless charging.
