With the process completed and the flash drive still mounted, rebooted my M4 Mini in boot choice mode. Sure enough, the Sequoia installation option was listed.

Removed the stick and stored it with my windows 10 install stick. Hopefully I’ll never need it ( unless I break my Mac AGAIN 😫 )
The only missing instruction for me was to prepare the new thumb drive by reformatting it from fat to MacOS Extended (Journaled) before beginning the process. Evidently my Mac doesn’t like fat target volumes, even in terminal 👎
