Bug or feature? The new version of the Edge browser insists on using the Bing search engine

This week Microsoft began rolling out Edge 91, a new version of its proprietary browser that has received many improvements. It turned out that there is a bug in the browser, which, according to some users, was not there by chance. This is about repeatedly suggesting the browser use Bing as the default search engine.

After the update, the browser prompts you to change the default search engine, which seems quite normal. However, some users reported that Edge 91 prompts to use Bing repeatedly, and a message appears intermittently while browsing. Moreover, in some cases, the offer to switch to Bing appears, even if Microsoft’s search engine is already used by default.

Although some users suspected Microsoft of deliberately pushing their search engine aggressively, this browser behavior is due to a software bug. A community administrator for Microsoft Edge on Reddit said the development team has already begun investigating the situation and has asked users for more information.

Despite the fact that Microsoft has released a new Edge for different platforms, only users of the browser for Windows 10 face the mentioned error. There is no ready-made solution to the problem; users are asked to close the periodically appearing window without changing the settings. Most likely, in the near future Microsoft will release a patch that will normalize the browser.
