Sources said AMD had become the main customer for 7nm chips from TSMC, overtaking Apple in this indicator. The fact is that the “apple” company decided to switch to 5-nm platforms and thus freed up other customers’ capacity. So Apple will indirectly help AMD solve the problem with the shortage of processors and consoles.
AMD is reported to have increased its 7nm orders by 80% over the previous year. The company will use these chips in Zen 3 products, including the new Xbox and PlayStation consoles. Apart from that, the chips, of course, can go to the server processor segment. It is not yet clear how exactly AMD will prioritize.
It is worth noting that the media have already written a lot about the shortage of Ryzen 5000 processors. AMD is likely to want to address its desktop supply issues.
