Apple v Epic Games court hearing to take place on May 3

The U.S. District Court has set Apple v Epic Games’ trial for May 3. It will be held in a live format, so witnesses will have to come to the hearing in person – after spending 2 weeks in quarantine.

Judge Yvonne Gonzalez decided to hold the hearing in person because the case is “quite serious”. It is better to hear testimony from the participants’ lips in the case – so the chances are lower that witnesses will lie after swearing only the truth in the courtroom.

However, if the number of coronavirus infections is high, the meeting will be held at Zoom. The judge wants to close the trial within 2-3 weeks, but Epic Games is pushing for a longer 4-5 weeks.

The litigation between Apple and Epic Games began in late summer. Fortnite developers are demanding that Apple reduce App Store fees.
