Apple plans to release 2.5 million MacBooks with Apple Silicon by February

Initial order for first MacBooks powered by Apple Silicon SoC equals nearly 20% of total MacBook shipments in 2019

According to Nikkei Asia, Apple intends to reduce its dependence on Intel and is asking suppliers to ship 2.5 million proprietary MacBooks by February.

The first MacBooks’ initial order based on Apple Silicon SoCs is equivalent to nearly 20% of the total MacBook shipments in 2019, which were 12.6 million units. Apple has also placed orders for older iPhones ahead of the holiday season to make up for iPhone 12 shortages.

The sources added that the American tech giant plans to introduce other MacBook models using its processors in the second quarter of next year, subsequently replacing Intel microprocessors. Apple said it intends to cut back on Intel standard processors used by competitors such as HP, Dell, Lenovo, and Asustek.

The Cupertino tech giant plans to host an online Apple Silicon MacBook launch event next Tuesday. The company will finally begin shipping the iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 Pro Max later that week.
