Apple orders 20 million older iPhones to make up for the iPhone 12 shortage.

Apple used some iPad-specific components to produce the iPhone 12 Pro!

Ahead of the holiday season, Apple has placed orders for older iPhones to compensate for the shortage of new iPhone 12 smartphones.

The demand for the iPhone 12 Pro was much higher than Apple expected. The company also faced restrictions on the supply of specific components, such as power ICs and lidar components. Because of this, Apple used some iPad-specific components to manufacture the iPhone 12 Pro.

Sources say that as a result of these changes, iPad production volumes have decreased by 2 million units from the previously established plan. Bloomberg confirmed that there is some shortage of power management ICs in the supply chain, which could affect the iPhone 12.

To offset declining iPhone 12 shipments, Apple asked suppliers to prepare more than 20 million iPhone 11, iPhone SE, and iPhone XR units from October to the end of the year. That’s the equivalent of a quarter of the orders that Apple placed this year for the new iPhone 12 series (up to 80 million units).

iPhone 11, iPhone SE, and iPhone XR phones manufactured after October will not ship with a charger or wired headphones. iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max will no longer be manufactured.

The iPhone 11 momentum is surprisingly robust and continues. But that’s not the case for the Pro and Pro Max. It’s time to end the production of the iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max. The continued production of these two models will impact sales of the iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max.
