AirPods Max can still play lossless audio from Apple Music, but only when connected by cable

For some time now, the attention of netizens has been riveted on the upcoming introduction of support for lossless audio in Apple Music. Earlier, none of the Apple company’s wireless headphones would allow users to enjoy lossless audio recordings. However, now Apple has announced that AirPods Max will be able to boast of such an opportunity, but you should not count on Hi-Res.

Apple said that when AirPods Max are connected to devices that play lossless audio from Apple Music via a cable, users will be able to listen to lossless audio, but only in basic quality. It was impossible to implement Hi-Res support since the Lightning ↔ 3.5 mm cable is combined with an analog-to-digital converter, which affects the sound quality.

Apple also confirmed that the HomePod and HomePod mini smart speakers would receive support for lossless audio, but this will not happen immediately, but along “with future software updates.”
